Algarve with record number of blue flags
The symbol of quality will be visible on 85 beaches of the Algarve
The blue flag Association of Europe (ABAE) has just announced the official list of beaches and marinas distinguished with the blue flag 2015 and the Algarve is, once again, the most awarded in Portugal.
This year there are 85 Blue Flag beaches to enjoy in the Algarve, three more than last year, as well as four marinas: Albufeira, Lagos, Portimão and Vilamoura.
Across the country a total of 299 beaches and 15 marinas were awarded the prestigious flag, a record since the distinction is assigned.
According to the Organization, Beliche beach, neighbor of Cape St. Vincent, in Sagres (Vila do Bispo), being highly sought after beach for surfers, receives the award for the first time. On the other hand, returning to the ABAE list are Praia Grande beach, in Ferragudo (Lagoa), Os alemães Beach, in Albufeira, and Tonel beach, next to the Fortress of Sagres (Vila do Bispo).
Criteria for a Blue Flag to be awarded is based on Environmental Education and Information, water quality, environmental management, and safety and services. for further information clickhere.
