Air Transat resumes direct flights between Canada and Algarve

Air Transat resumes weekly connection between Toronto and Faro. Operation starts on January 18 and runs until October 25 - It is the first time the airline extends operations to the Algarve during the summer. The long-haul flight is a clear positive sign of the region's importance and the result of the work carried out by ANA- VINCI Airports in the development and sustainability of airport routes

Faro airport will once again welcome Air Transat with a regular operation from Toronto, this time until October 2022. This direct flight will expand connectivity in the region, as Air Transat has regular operations to several airports in Canada, such as Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal.

The airline has been operating regularly to Faro airport, but until now with regular flights only in the winter months. In fact, if we consider records from the last 20 years, this will be the first time the airline has operated in Faro in the summer.

Passengers travelling from Faro will fly on Air Transat’s most recent fleet, including the new A321neoLR aircraft, which has the lowest environmental impact in its class, with capacity for 199 passengers.

This resumption is possible due to the joint effort between the airline, ANA - VINCI Airports and the regional and national tourism entities, counting on 20 more movements in the IATA winter and 64 more movements in the summer.

Francisco Pita, Chief Commercial Officer of ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal, noted that: "With this important launch by Air Transat, placing the Algarve in its route portfolio as a summer destination, new opportunities for the development of the tourism in the region open up. It will be a valuable diversification of supply on the summer routes to Faro Airport and we are very optimistic about the success of this operation".

Joseph Adamo, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Transat, added that “We are thrilled to resume our operations in Faro and in the process enhancing our service between Canada and Portugal. Now offered year-round, this route allows Canadian travellers to explore the magnificent region of the Algarve, an increasingly popular coastal destination that has so much to offer in the way of rich culture and majestic scenery, while also offering more travellers from Portugal the chance to discover the Great White North”.
