Madeira Airport welcomes Volotea

The Spanish low cost airline, Volotea starts flying to Madeira, in a charter operation from several regional airports in France.

Up to the end of June, Volotea will operate two weekly frequencies, from Nantes, Beauvais, Clermont Ferrand, Dijon, Perpignan, Marseille and Bouthéon.

This operation represents 5 thousand seats from the French market to Madeira.

The French market is the fourth biggest source market to Madeira, representing more than 147 thousand passengers in 2013, with a 6% market share at Madeira Airport.

The French market has been growing significantly in the last years. Its market share in 2010 was just 3% and 72 thousand passengers were processed at Madeira Airport. In 2013, this market grew over 10% and up to March 2014, the growth rate has been 20%! We are very glad to welcome a new airline that will operate from several airports that are also new routes to Madeira Airport.

This operation benefits from Madeira Airports Incentive Programme, for new routes incentive.

This Thursday, April 24th 2014, Madeira Airport welcomes the new airline providing the traditional “bath” on the aircraft and offering flowers and Madeira Wine to the passengers travelling on the first flight.

Volotea was founded in 2011 and has 6 bases: Nantes, Bordeaux, Venice and Palermo. They operate with aircrafts Boeing 717-200, with capacity for 125 seats.
