Madeira Airport is celebrating its 50th Anniversary

Today Madeira has a modern airport connected to over 70 airports

Madeira Airport is the main point of entry to Madeira, a destination with decades of tradition in tourism and the art of hospitality. The islands - Madeira and Porto Santo (which also has an airport) are known for their natural beauty and mild climate, which makes us the ideal, year round destination.

Today, Madeira Airport is celebrating its 50º anniversary. Back in 1964, it started to be an important bridge from Madeira to the world. Today Madeira Airport is a modern structure with a runway that has been internationally awarded as an engineering masterpiece: as the runway was enlarged, part of it was built by the sea.

Recently, the commercial areas were subject to major investment: retails shops were improved and a new food court was created with comfort areas that improve the passenger’s experience when departing. We offer a VIP lounge and services as well as assistance to reduced mobility passengers.

In 2013, Madeira Airport was connected to over 70 airports. More than 40 airlines fly to Madeira Airport. Madeira Airport has a terminal capacity of 3, 5 million passengers a year.

At Madeira Airport we allow all tourists and passengers to feel the real rhythm of the island, through the unique experience inside and outside the terminal. At the arrivals or at the boarding gates, we always have a little bit of Madeira Island close to the passengers, assuring a real Madeira sense of place.
