KL International Airport Expands Network Connectivity With Hainan Airlines’ Direct Flight to Haikou

KL International Airport (KLIA) marked another milestone with the launch of Hainan Airlines’ (HU) inaugural direct flight between Kuala Lumpur and Haikou on 30 May 2025. The four-times-weekly service is part of Malaysia Airports’ strategic efforts to strengthen connectivity with China, one of its key target markets for network growth.
Malaysia Airports Managing Director, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani said, “The introduction of Hainan Airlines’ direct Kuala Lumpur–Haikou service reflects our focus on strengthening KLIA’s network connectivity, particularly in China - one of our key target markets. This route expansion reinforces our role as an airport operator driving growth through enhanced accessibility, which supports trade, tourism and economic development.”
The new Kuala Lumpur-Haikou direct flight provides Malaysian travellers with fast and easy access to Hainan. At the same time, this route opens up smooth connections for passengers transiting through Haikou to over 50 cities across China, as well as international destinations such as London, Bangkok, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Haikou is increasingly serving as a strategic gateway for flights from China to the Middle East, with convenient connections to destinations such as Dubai and Jeddah, making it an ideal transit point for travellers heading to the region.
