KLIA Named Asia Pacific’s Most Connected Airport in OAG Megahubs 2025

KL International Airport (KLIA) has been ranked the most connected airport in the Asia Pacifi c region and placed fourth globally in OAG’s 2025 Megahubs index. Since the fi rst Megahubs ranking in 2015, KLIA has grown its connectivity by 22% and today also holds the world’s No. 1 spot among low-cost carrier megahubs, with AirAsia contributing around 36% of its operations.

The recognition comes on the back of strong momentum at KLIA. This year alone, the airport has welcomed 6 new airline entrants and launched 11 new routes across the network. Long-haul capacity has been expanded with higher frequencies from global carriers, while the presence of Chinese airlines has more than doubled compared to pre-pandemic levels. As of August 2025, KLIA recorded 41 million passengers, a 9% increase year-on-year.

Service improvements continue to be a central focus. Successes in 2025 include increased throughput at passenger processing checkpoints leading to shorter minimum connecting time (MCT). The airport has also introduced new family-friendly facilities and refreshed cultural showcases that enhance the travel experience. Most recently, the airport has begun trialling a Vehicle Access Management System (VAMS) to improve kerbside traffi c fl ow and ensure smoother access to the terminal.

Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, said that being recognised as Asia Pacifi c’s most connected airport refl ects the strength of KLIA’s hub position and its contribution to Malaysia’s global standing, “As we prepare for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, our priority is to expand connectivity, build capacity, and reimagine the passenger journey. We want KLIA to stand not only as a source of national pride, but as a world-class hub that drives Malaysia’s growth and connects our nation to the future of global travel.”

KLIA’s climb in the OAG global rankings demonstrates the progress of Malaysia Airports’ refreshed strategy, which centres on service excellence, growth, and capacity. With these efforts, KLIA is poised to consolidate its role as one of the world’s foremost aviation hubs.
