Sun PhuQuoc Airways Strengthens Malaysia–Vietnam Connectivity

The official launch of Sun Phu Quoc Airways' inaugural direct flight from Phu Quoc to Kuala Lumpur recently marks a significant milestone in enhancing regional air connectivity and strengthening tourism ties between Vietnam and Malaysia.

The new service, operated by an Airbus A321neo with 236 seats, commenced daily operations on 1 September 2026, providing greater access for travellers from Phu Quoc and southern Vietnam to Malaysia, particularly during the Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 (VM2026–2027) campaign.

Vietnam remains an important tourism market for Malaysia, with 156,747 visitor arrivals recorded from January to June 2026. The new route is expected to support further growth in visitor arrivals by providing an additional direct travel option for travellers from Phu Quoc and surrounding areas.

The service also provides Vietnamese travellers with easier access to Malaysia’s tourism destinations, including Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Penang, Langkawi and Melaka, while facilitating travel for Malaysians visiting Phu Quoc.

Malaysia Airports and Tourism Malaysia will continue working with airlines and industry partners in Vietnam to maximise the potential of the new route and promote Malaysia as a tourism destination among Vietnamese and ASEAN travellers.
