Up 2 million passengers from 2013

18 million: Lisbon Airport reaches new passenger record 

Tomorrow Lisbon Airport will reach the 18 million passenger mark for the year 2014, a new annual record which is 2 million more than in 2013. This will take place at 9:30am with flight TK 1756 to Istanbul.

In order to celebrate this historical event for Lisbon Airport, the 18 millionth passenger will receive an upgrade on the Turkish Airlines flight, a gift form ANA Aeroportos de Portugal and a €100 gift certificate for Lojas Francas de Portugal (Portuguese duty free shop).

The number of passengers at Lisbon Airport is expected to reach 18.1 million by the end of the year, clearly surpassing the previous record established in 2013 with 16.025 million. Of the 30 biggest European airports, Lisbon has the third highest growth rate of the year at 13.5%. Athens came in first at 20.9% and Brussels came in second with 14.8%.

Turkish Airlines is a member of Star Alliance and was one of the companies which most contributed to Lisbon’s historical results. In 2015, the company plans to up the number of flights from Lisbon and Porto to Istanbul, clearly strengthening its focus on Portugal.
