Mr Joseph Galea, Air Malta’s Acting Chief Executive stated, "We are thrilled to be extending our services to South Western Europe. Our return to Lisbon after a very long absence is not just another milestone for the airline, but represents a strong commitment by the airline to better connect the Mediterranean region to all Europe and beyond.  We plan to carry around 10,000 passengers in the first year of operation and thus generating increased tourism between the two countries.”

Air Malta’s Chairman, Dr Charles Mangion added, “This is great news for the Maltese and Portuguese travellers alike who now have the opportunity to visit these great destinations through Air Malta’s services. Today’s announcement is another step forward in the strategy to connect Mediterranean regions with the rest of Europe. Our geographical position together with the increased routes and frequencies to major airports will undoubtedly help make Air Malta the natural choice when it comes to connecting flights across the region.”

The Minister for Tourism, Hon Konrad Mizzi stated that this route will allow Air Malta to be connected to the South American region since Lisbon is an important hub for South American passengers travelling to European countries. He mentioned that this is part of Air Malta’s growth and revitalisation strategy which includes a number of added routes and frequencies, as well as connections to new markets around the world.

Life is good on the Mediterranean island of Malta: warm sunshine, starry nights and lots to do, see, taste, feel and remember. From balmy beaches and trendy nightclubs, to magnificent ancient monuments and a stunning legacy of centuries’ old art and culture, Malta has something for everyone to enjoy. The Baroque city of Valletta which presently is the European Capital of Culture is a UNESCO World Heritage site replete with museums, churches, galleries, shops, open air markets and boasting the remarkable St John’s Co-Cathedral, to the old capital, Mdina, the so-called ‘Silent City’, that quietly evokes a bygone era with its elegant stone palaces and hushed cobbled streets.  A ferry ride away, a visit to the island of Gozo and Comino is a must.

So why don’t you take the opportunity to fly to Malta and benefit from the newly launched Go Light product fares starting from just EUR49 one way including taxes and charges?
